Information For Volunteers

Currently, we only accept volunteers with specific skills in metal fabrication, mobility design, or welding.  We also welcome experienced volunteers with either physical therapy or occupational therapy skills.
The Foundation does not accept short term volunteers.  We prefer a minimum commitment of at least 3 months.   Volunteers are expected to obtain visas for Thailand on their own and are asked to provide their own housing, food, and transportation.
Inasmuch as volunteers become a part of our extended Disabled Center family, we ask that all volunteer candidates do their utmost to learn some basic Thai language, as well as to accept and respect Asian (especially Thai) values and culture.
The Chiang Mai Disabled Center is located at the heart of the “old city” of Chiang Mai.  We are ½ block from the Sunday walking street, and located within easy walking distance of hotels, guest houses, and a wide variety of both Thai and foreign restaurants.
Chiang Mai is a small, safe city located at the foot of Doi Suthep mountain and less than 30 minutes by car or motorcycle from experiencing lush and unspoiled tropical nature.
In the past, we have welcomed volunteers from many countries around the world including Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and both north and south America. Please direct inquiries to:  assist@loxinfo.co.th

Monetary donations are gratefully appreciated and can be tendered in cash, by personal cheque, or by bank transfer into Fixed Savings Account 501-1-13375-7 at Siam Commercial Bank, 17 Thapae Road, Chiang Mai 50100, Thailand.  The account name is:  Foundation To Encourage The Potential Of Disabled Persons. Wheelchair Sponsorships Urgently Needed.

The cost of providing a free wheelchair for a poor and needy disabled person is $280 U.S.  This price includes at least 2 home visits, free physical therapy, free wheelchair service, and free Thai language self-help information.

Other Donations

We also welcome donations of serviceable second-hand wheelchairs and other mobility aids such as walkers, canes, crutches, ramps, and scooters. The best way to arrange delivery of mobility aids is to find a travel agent or a friend with plans to visit Thailand.  If the mobility accompanies a traveler into Thailand, it traditionally avoids duty, tax, or hassle.
